The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) signed a cooperation agreement in the field of science and technology.
The two agencies, on Monday (October 9), signed a joint agreement that includes joint research and development, capacity building of human resources, and exchange of scientific data, BRIN’s Deputy for Research and Innovation Facilitation, Agus Haryono, noted in a statement received here on Wednesday.
The cooperation also covers the utilization of infrastructure and facilities, support for research ethics clearance, permits for foreign workers in the fields of marine and fisheries, oceanography, biodiversity and biotechnology, earth science, remote sensing, environmental and disaster technology, and energy.
Haryono welcomed the visit of KIOST that was represented by Director of South Korea’s Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC), Park Hansan, and Director of MTCRC Indonesia, Ivonne Milichristi Radjawane.
“BRIN lauds the research collaboration in the maritime field that has been established with KIOST/MTCRC and with several institutions and universities in Indonesia,” he remarked.
He noted that KIOST and MTCRC can explore cooperation in the field of policy, considering that BRIN is authorized to formulate and issue policies in the field of research and innovation.
In addition, he said, BRIN is open to joint research funding.
“Last month, we inaugurated a research funding platform called Indonesia Research and Innovation Fund (IRIF) that can be utilized by BRIN researchers and external parties, including international partners,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Director of MTCRC Park Hansan noted that MTCRC is a research organizing agency in Indonesia that represents KIOST.
“Looking at the track record of joint research seminar and collaboration, BRIN is a potential partner for KIOST and MTCRC,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Director of MTCRC Indonesia Ivonne Radjawane remarked that her side can expand cooperation with BRIN apart from research, such as for capacity building and joint use of infrastructure.
